Keeping up to date is important to me as a nurse, case manager and as a Nurse Advocate. That is why each year I put together my Professional Reading List to assist you, the readers of Nurse Advocate to keep up with your continuous learning efforts. There is a lot of information that is pushed out via the Intenet on a daily basis. Some are good and some are not so good. In this year’s Professional Reading List, I share the various e-letters that come across my desk each day that help me stay up to date with the trends and issues impacting healthcare.
Most of these are free and provide me with information that I share with YOU, the followers of Nurse Advocate. Each morning as I have my first cup of coffee, I scan the various e-letters. If I find an interesting article, I share it through my various social media outlets so you can read it.
I have listed the e-letters in alphabetical order and share why I like the e-letter and a little about it. I invite you to check them and subscribe to them. If you have an e-letter that you like that is not on the list, please feel free to share in the comment section!
Before I begin with the e-letters, I wanted to highlight two new books written by my colleagues and friends. They are:
The Essential Guide to Interprofessional Ethics in Healthcare Case Management by Ellen Fink-Samnick, MSW, ACSW, LCSW, CCM, CRP: The Essential Guide to Interprofessional Ethics in Healthcare Case Management will help case managers navigate the ethical conundrums they face as they interact with one another, the healthcare team, and patients and families. Rather than providing a broad-strokes overview of ethics, author Ellen Fink-Samnick takes a focused approach and considers specific scenarios unique to healthcare and case management. The book covers industry disruptors, including technology and social media; workplace bullying; licensure across state lines; patient care considerations, such as end-of-life care, LGBT patients, and traumatic brain injury; and the impact of ethics on models of care, such as value-based care and population health. Leadership and Nursing Care Management by Diane Huber Ph.D. RN FAAN NEA-BC. If you are looking for ways to develop your management and leadership skills. Leadership and Nursing Care Management, 6thEdition maintains would be a good book to consider. The book shares competencies and features the most up-to-date, evidence-based blend of practice and theory related to the issues that impact nursing management and leadership today. The book is written with a fresh, conversational writing style that provides you with an easy-to-understand, in-depth look at these prevalent issues. Key topics include the nursing professional’s role in law and ethics, staffing and scheduling, delegation, cultural considerations, care management, human resources, outcomes management, safe work environments, preventing employee injury, and time and stress management.
