A few years ago, past President Gary Wolfe brought an idea to the Past Presidents Council of the Case Management Society of America: adding a Fellowship Program to the organization. We all listened to his rationale and did some research on what this designation would mean to the profession. We asked ourselves critical questions: Was it time? Would case managers see the value? Would the healthcare industry recognize the impact of the credential and what it means to case management professionals and their organizations?
I decided I wanted to be part of the development of the credential, so I volunteered to serve on the committee looking into what a Fellowship Designation for case managers would require. It was an exciting experience, and I was proud to be part of the process. As someone who has dedicated a significant portion of my career to the area of case management, I felt the Fellow in Case Management (FCM™) designation was a perfect way to demonstrate my commitment and leadership to the profession.
In this article, I wanted to share insight into this important designation and encourage case managers in all settings to look at themselves to see if they are ready to advance to a Fellow In Case Management.
