Welcome to the 2025 Professional Reading List. I create this list each year to share books and e-letters that help me stay informed about the latest developments in the healthcare industry. I hope you will check out each resource and add them to your daily email review.

To succeed in the roles we play, we all need to read and stay current on clinical innovations and practice changes. The books, e-letters, and special reports shared in this year’s Professional Reading List will help you become better informed and aware of how you can improve your skills and competencies.

Magazines:

The Atlantic: I just subscribed to The Atlantic magazine because I like the writers, the topics, and the content. The publication keeps me up on current events happening in our country. Here is the link to learn more

The New Yorker is another magazine that I look forward to coming every week and digesting top stories, humor, and podcasts. Here is the link to learn more.

Substack: Substack is where you can read posts, listen to podcasts, watch videos, or chat with your favorite creators on the web or in the app, with no noise. Today, many journalists who have left broadcasting shows for various reasons are now on Substack. I am still learning it and finding who I want to follow…. here are some of the people I follow are Andy Borowitz who is a satirist who writes for the New Yorker. Heather Cox Richardson, who is a historian and speaks and educates on American History

Books:

Nurse leader Sharon Weinstein and her colleague Dina Readinger produced Healing Healthcare: Evidence-Based Strategies to Mend Our Broken System. The book examines the complex challenges within the healthcare landscape post-pandemic and provides solutions for change. They brought together nurse leaders from academia, practice, and the community to share their expertise and provide practical tips that readers can apply in their settings.   I contributed to the book and wrote Chapter 16, Taking Care of You. In this chapter, I reminded nurses and other healthcare team members of the importance of taking care of themselves so they can effectively care for others. I offer practical tips that will benefit you both personally and professionally. The book is filled with the voices of nurse leaders.
