In this post, I review a new book that will be released in early October that guides healthcare leaders, specifically nurse leaders, in addressing the ills of our broken healthcare system. I contributed to the book and wrote Chapter 16, Taking Care of You. In this chapter, I reminded nurses and other healthcare team members to understand the importance of taking care of themselves so they can take care of others. I provide tips that will help personally and professionally.
Healing Healthcare is a deep dive into the intricate challenges nurses and other members of the healthcare team face and evidence-based solutions for change. The book is filled with the voices of nurse leaders. The pages contain solutions, action steps, and strategies to fix the broken healthcare system. Part Three: Wisdom. This section moves us beyond common discussions on maximizing patients’ value as contributors explore education, cultural misalignments, lack of recognition, and uncertainty, providing a nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare professionals.
