If you know a nurse, take a moment during National Nurses Week to call, text, or email them and simply say thank you. Small gestures of appreciation can mean more than you realize.

These continue to be stressful times across every area of nursing practice. Yet nurses show up each day, do their best to stay safe, and care for patients and families with skill, compassion, and dedication. It is not just a profession — it is a commitment to caring for others when they need it most.

This year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses,” recognizes the strength, compassion, and critical impact nurses have on patient care and community health every day.

My career has taken me places that I never dreamed I would go when I graduated as an LPN in 1973. It has gotten me a seat at the table and allowed me to have a voice to speak up for the challenges we face as healthcare professionals and make recommendations to improve the system. I have also been viewed as a subject matter expert in the area of healthcare as a critical care nurses, a risk manager, a nurse case manager and most recently a patient advocate and a digital journalist. It is been a great ride and I am grateful for those I have met along the way who have mentored me, supported me and celebrated the good times and helped me make a difference in this complex healthcare system.

As part of this celebration, I am pleased to share Second Acts: Reflections from Nurses to Inspire the Next Generation of Nurses — a collection of stories from nurses reflecting on their careers as they move into their second and even third acts of professional life. I created this report as a goal to shed light on the vast array of nursers who I have been privileged to know and call them my friends.

Please feel free to download the report and share the report with your nursing colleagues.:https://anne-llewellyn.s3.amazonaws.com/2ND+ACTS+FINALVERSION.pdf+4.2.19.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com
