This is the 6th Year of My Professional Reading List. I hope you will take time to review this year’s list and check out some of the recommended resources. Dateline Health: Watch my interview with Fred Lippman, R.Ph., Ed.D, Chancellor Emeritus of Nova Southeastern University Health Professions Division and colleague Cathy F. Bowers, BCPA, CP, CSA, MSA, NCG. We talked about Patient Advocacy and why everyone needs an advocate.

The Nurse Listening Tour: This was a radio show I did with the founders Sharon Weinstein, CSPN,FAAN and Dina Readinger, CEO of Diagnostic Thinking. We covered a variety of topics on case management and the state of today’s healthcare system.

Nurses Talking: An interview with founder Dale Barzey Pond . In this radio interview, I shared my journey into nursing in the mid- 1970s to the present and what I learned along the way. The goal of the program is to highlight nurses and shed light on the positive aspects of nursing.

Humanizing Healthcare: Hardwire Humanity into the Future of Health 1st Edition by Dr. Summer Knight. A look into what hopefully will be the future of healthcare.

It Shouldn’t Be This Hard to Serve Your Country: Our Broken Government and the Plight of Veterans by Dr. David Shulkin. This is an eye opening book that exposes the internal workings of our government. Dr. Shulkin was the Secretary of Veterans Affair in the Trump Administration. As the title states, It shouldn’t be this heard to serve your country.

Ellen is a leader, educator, and prolificate speaker who delves into issues impacting the healthcare industry. Nancy Porter Taylor recommended: Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine by Mike Michalowicz. Starting a business in healthcare? You might want to check this book out.

Facebook Colleague Pam Walter recommended: Coronary: A True Story of Medicine Gone Awry by Stephen Klaidman: a true story on the rise and fall of two ambitious California heart doctors traces how they performed countless surgeries and generated enormous profits for their hospital’s management company before a suspicious patient and the FBI investigated the possibility that they were subjecting healthy patients to unnecessary medical procedures.

NCQA Newsletter: NCQA is the leading accreditation body in healthcare. They have excellent education program throughout the year. Review the site and sign up!

CURE Today: an e-letter for cancer patients. Good stories to keep us grounded.

WEBMD: a site written for the consumer to learn about chronic medical conditions to wellness. I often share links with my patients, family and friends.

Healthcare Dive:  A good e-letter that allows me to get healthcare business news and information on the fly.

National Geographic: A long time newsletter that I have been following lately. They have some great articles to educate ME!

TRAVELZOO: looking for a quick getaway at a reasonable price. Follow Travelzoo! My husband and I have found some great getaways from this newsletter in Florida and worldwide.

Allrecipes: Looking for something new to cook for dinner? Check out Allrecipes……easy to cook recopies that help you be a creative cook!
